No. Although both are South Indian spice blends and may share a few ingredients, they are formulated differently. Sambar Masala is designed for the richer, thicker dal-and-vegetable character of sambar, while Rasam Powder generally produces a sharper, more peppery flavour suited to thinner rasam.
No. Tamarind is not listed among the ingredients of Nairuti Sambar Masala. This gives you control over the sourness of your sambar. Add tamarind separately according to your taste while cooking.
The blend does contain dry mango powder, which contributes some tang, but it does not replace the characteristic flavour of tamarind in traditional sambar. Tamarind is commonly adjusted separately when preparing sambar.
It is intended to give sambar a balanced, aromatic flavour rather than chilli heat alone. Since red chilli is part of the blend, there is some warmth, but you can easily control the intensity by starting with less masala and adjusting according to your family's preference.
This is particularly useful when preparing sambar for children or anyone who prefers milder food.
No. Nairuti Sambar Masala is made with no added preservatives and no anti-caking agents, and contains no artificial colours or flavours.
Because we do not use anti-caking agents to keep the masala artificially free-flowing, natural ingredients may absorb moisture and occasionally form small lumps. Natural clumping by itself does not mean the masala has spoiled.
Always use a dry spoon, close the pack tightly after use and keep it away from moisture. Moisture is one of the main reasons spice powders deteriorate during storage.
Spices, lentils, curry leaves and coconut are agricultural ingredients, so their natural colour, aroma and intensity can vary slightly between crops and batches. Because the product contains no artificial colours or flavours, some natural variation can be expected.
What matters is that the blend retains its characteristic aroma and is stored properly in a cool, dry place in an airtight pack or container. Proper dry storage is particularly important for spice blends containing ingredients such as lentils and coconut.
